The theme of this week’s best bites: food so delicious, it doesn’t need to be spiced or seasoned or dipped in anything.
snap peas: My garden went from leafy to abundant this week. Flowers are popping on multiple pepper plants and two container eggplant bushes, and my cherry tomato plant has upwards of 50 little green picture-perfect fruit. My larger striped tomato bushes are eight feet tall and blooming, too. And the first backyard harvest of the season happened on Friday, when I found exactly six snap peas that were ready to come off the vine.
I washed and ate them all within 30 seconds of bringing them inside, and they were sweet and salty and tasted exactly how you’d think the color green should. I dipped a few in hummus, but they were most delicious on their own, without any kind of gussying up.
