These bites are coming to you on West Coast time and thanks to a vacation schedule that left me too tired to write a single word on Sunday night. But better late than never! The past few days of eating were too good not to share.
apricot galette: Friday afternoon, my husband, sisters-in-law and I had a late lunch at Chez Panisse, the Berkeley restaurant that was the birthplace of farm-to-table eating in the U.S. Chez Panisse has been open since 1971, and 52 years is a long time to be doing anything at all as well as this place has. Was the meal perfect? Absolutely not. But more things than not were mouthwatering, and the apricot galette actually did venture into the realm of perfection. The fruit tasted like candy — if candy grew on trees — and the flaky, crispy crust actually did start to melt in my mouth. Another highlight from the meal: the pizza with roasted fennel.
