supermarket detox, week 1
Plus a recipe I'd never have made if I were shopping like usual. I may never buy an English muffin again.
Saying I’m one week into my grocery-buying experiment feels like a stretch, since I was out of town at a wedding last weekend and didn’t start attempting to feed myself sans supermarket until Monday. (If you’re wondering what I’m talking about, catch up on my month-long supermarket detox here.) Even so, these first few days have not been without their challenges.
I woke up Monday morning on not enough sleep, facing a fair amount of work, and I had very little in the way of food in my fridge. Usually, a mindless trip to Whole Foods would’ve been in order, but I actually had to think about where I should go and what I wanted to cook. That day’s shopping was a piecemeal affair that involved stops at four different stores, and if there’s one overarching lesson from these first few days, it’s that I need to plan my shopping better. Otherwise I’ll end up buying an 8 oz. container of sour cream for $7, like I did yesterday morning.
Here are three more things I learned this week. Not all of them involve accidental overspending. Though some do.
